Assetto Corsa Road America: How to Master This Iconic Track (Tips and Tricks for All Skill Levels)

That Assetto Corsa, oh boy, it’s somethin’ else. And that Road America, I tell ya, it’s a beast! My grandson, he’s always playin’ it. I don’t know much about them video games, but I see him on that screen, and I hear that engine roarin’. Sounds like a real race car, that’s for sure. I think he tries to teach me how to play, but it’s all too much for this old gal.

He’s always goin’ on and on about this Road America track. Says it’s his favorite. Says it’s real fast and you gotta be brave. He says you have to slow the car down for the corners, that’s called braking. He was going on about “braking points” or whatever, I don’t know. He was sayin’ somethin’ about “gear selection” too, pickin’ the right gear for the right speed. Sounds complicated to me. I just drive my old truck to the market, don’t need no fancy gears. But he loves it, that’s what matters.

He showed me once, he was drivin’ a little car, a Toyota somethin’, maybe a Toyota GT86. He was goin’ so fast! He told me he had to be “smooth” with the wheel and the pedals. Don’t want to be jerky, he said. He was goin’ through them corners, turnin’ the wheel just right, and then pushin’ the gas pedal again to go fast. You gotta use the throttle, whatever that means, I just know that he pushed the pedal.

He said this Road America, it’s got 11 parts or somethin’. Every part, he’s got to do somethin’ different. Brake here, turn there, push the gas there. He’s got it all figured out, that boy. Always says that Assetto Corsa is very real. And he likes that Road America flows real good. I don’t know what that means, but he keeps saying it. He’s always talkin’ about how he’s gotta be brave on that track, gotta go faster and faster.

• He says there’s somethin’ called “driver settings,” and he puts it on “Pro.”
• And then there’s a “track setting,” and he puts it on “fast.”
• He says that Road America track just makes you wanna go fast.
• He’s always tryin’ to get better, that one.

He told me once that there are other tracks in the game, too. Said there is like, a whole bunch of them, from all over the world, even made-up ones. He mentioned one that is not real, but it’s like some road somewhere far away, in a place called “Madagascar,” I think? He said it is called “Revy Miodina.” Sounds like a mouthful. Says it’s a tough one. He says there’s all kinds of cars you can drive, too. Fast ones, slow ones, all kinds. He says the GT4 and M2’s are good for learnin’. Says you can learn all about the cars and the tracks with those. I don’t know about all that, I just nod and smile.

This whole Assetto Corsa thing, it’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. That Road America, though, that’s the one he really loves. He’s always tryin’ to go faster, always tryin’ to be better. He’s a good boy, that one. I don’t understand all that video game stuff, but he’s happy, and that’s all that matters. I reckon I’ll stick to my garden and my chickens, that’s more my speed. But him? He’s a speed demon on that Road America, that’s for sure. He keeps talking about Assetto Corsa, all the time.

He’s got that steering wheel and those pedals, makes it feel like he’s really drivin’. I tried it once, just for a laugh. I crashed that car so fast, I tell ya! He just laughed and laughed. Said I need more practice. I told him I’d stick to my quiltin’, thank you very much. But that Road America track, even I could tell it was somethin’ special. All those turns, and the long straight parts where you can really go fast. It’s somethin’ to see, even for an old lady like me. These young folks and their games, always somethin’ new.

I still don’t really get it, this whole Assetto Corsa and Road America thing. But I like seein’ him so excited about it. He’s got his friends, they all play together online, I think. They’re always talkin’ about lap times and who’s the fastest. It’s a whole other world, this video game world. I’m just glad he’s found somethin’ he enjoys. And if that Road America track makes him happy, then that’s good enough for me. Maybe one day he will be a real race car driver. Who knows?

Well, I gotta go. The chickens need feedin’, and the garden needs waterin’. But I’ll tell ya, that Assetto Corsa and that Road America, they sure are somethin’. That grandson of mine, he’s gonna be a race car driver one day, I just know it. He’s got the need for speed, that’s for sure. And he’s always sayin’ that Road America is the best track in America. Maybe he’s right. I wouldn’t know, but he sure seems to think so! This game is very popular I think, it has a lot of race tracks to choose.
