Discover Brashear Park: A Hidden Gem in the City
Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Brashear Park, ya hear? It ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it’s somethin’ alright.
First off, findin’ the place ain’t too hard, even for an old woman like me. Just gotta keep yer eyes peeled. It’s kinda tucked away, like a secret only the neighborhood folks know about. It’s a real hidden gem, they say, though I ain’t never seen no gems there, just trees and grass.

Now, when ya get there, ya see it ain’t no Disneyland. It’s just a park, ya know? Got some trees, lots of ’em actually, big ol’ ones that give ya some shade on a hot day. And the grass, well, it’s green mostly, ‘cept when it gets all dried up in the summer. Then it’s kinda crunchy under yer feet.
They got swings and slides for the little ‘uns. Seen plenty of kids havin’ a good time there, laughin’ and screamin’ like nobody’s business. And them slides, they get hot as heck in the sun, gotta be careful ya don’t burn yer backside!
- Swings for kids
- Slides, but watch out, they get hot!
- Lots of trees, good for shade
There’s benches too, for us old folks to sit and rest our bones. I like to go there sometimes, just to watch people go by. Young folks joggin’, dogs chasin’ squirrels, lovers holdin’ hands… Seen it all in that park, I tell ya.
They got this big open space in the middle too. Good for picnics, I guess. Seen folks throwin’ frisbees and playin’ catch there. Once, I even saw a whole bunch of people doin’ some kinda weird exercise thing, all jumpin’ around and whatnot. Looked plumb crazy to me, but they seemed to be havin’ fun.
It ain’t always peaceful, though. Sometimes, them young’uns get a bit rowdy, playin’ their loud music and makin’ a ruckus. But mostly, it’s a quiet place, a good place to get away from all the noise of the city.
And the birds! Oh my, they got all kinds of birds in that park. Little ones, big ones, all chirpin’ and singin’ their little hearts out. Don’t know what kinda birds they are, but they sure are pretty to listen to.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie to ya, the park ain’t perfect. Sometimes, ya see some trash lyin’ around, which ain’t right. People should clean up after themselves, that’s what I say. And them bathrooms, well, they ain’t always the cleanest, if ya know what I mean. But hey, it’s a public park, whatcha gonna do?
But overall, it’s a good place. A place to take the grandkids, a place to walk yer dog, a place to just sit and think. It’s a little piece of nature in the middle of all this concrete and steel. And that’s somethin’ special, I reckon.

They got some paths too, windin’ through the trees. Good for walkin’, if yer legs ain’t too creaky like mine. I like to take a stroll there sometimes, just to get some fresh air and clear my head. It’s better than sittin’ at home watchin’ that darn TV all day, that’s for sure.
And they have events sometimes, you know, like little festivals and concerts. I went to one last summer, they had a band playin’ some old-timey music. It was nice, reminded me of when I was a young gal. Folks were dancin’ and singin’ along, havin’ a grand ol’ time.
So, if yer ever in the neighborhood, go check out Brashear Park. It ain’t fancy, but it’s got its charms. It’s a place where ya can relax, breathe some fresh air, and maybe even forget yer troubles for a little while. And that, my friend, is worth more than all the gold in the world.
It’s just a simple park, but it’s a good one. A place for folks to come together, to enjoy the outdoors, and to appreciate the little things in life. And that’s somethin’ we all need a little more of, don’t ya think?
One more thing, they have this here water fountain, but sometimes it don’t work so good. I remember one time I was so thirsty and it was just trickling out! I almost lost my patience waiting on it.
