Gordan Giricek: Where is he now and whats he doing?

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Gordan Giricek. Heard tell he’s a basketball player, a pretty tall one at that, somethin’ like 6 foot 7 they say. That’s taller than old man Johnson’s barn, I reckon.

Now, this Giricek fella, he comes from some place called Cro-ay-sha. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Zagreb, they call it. Never been there myself, but I hear it’s a city, a big one. Born in 1977, they say. Makes him… well, let’s just say he’s been around the block a few times. Probably got grandkids by now, maybe even great-grandkids, who knows?

He played this basketball game for a long, long time. Eighteen years, the newspaper folks say. That’s longer than my old mule, Bess, lived, and she was a tough one, I tell ya. Giricek, he played for all sorts of teams. Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers… Sounds like a bunch of animals and musical instruments to me, but I guess they’re basketball teams. He was a shootin’ guard and a small forward, whatever that means. Probably means he shoots the ball and runs forward, ain’t rocket science, I figure.

They say he’s retired now. Can’t blame him, I guess. Runnin’ and jumpin’ all that time takes a toll on your knees, I bet. My knees ain’t what they used to be, and I ain’t never played no fancy basketball games. Just chased chickens and hoed the garden, that’s enough exercise for any old woman, if you ask me.

I saw somethin’ in the paper about him gettin’ into it with another player, some big fella they called “The Big Aristotle.” Sounds like a mouthful, that name. Apparently, Giricek was chirpin’ at him, whatever that means. Probably talkin’ smack, like those youngins do. And this Aristotle fella, he put Giricek in a sleeper hold. Now, I don’t know what a sleeper hold is, but it sounds dangerous. Like somethin’ you’d do to a wild hog, not another person. But I guess that’s how they do things in that fancy basketball world.

Giricek and the News

Seems like people are still talkin’ about this Giricek fella. The newspaper folks keep writin’ about him. They say he’s a free agent, which I guess means he can play for any team he wants, if he wanted to. But like I said, I think he’s done with all that runnin’ and jumpin’. He’s probably sittin’ on his porch somewhere, sippin’ lemonade and watchin’ the grass grow, just like any sensible person would at his age.

There’s this thing called the NBA, the paper says it’s the best basketball league in the world. Seems like Giricek was a big deal in that NBA for a while. Good for him, I say. Always nice to see someone make somethin’ of themselves, even if it’s just playin’ a game with a ball. There’s worse things a fella could be doin’, I reckon. He could be sittin’ around all day, doin’ nothin’ but complainin’, like some folks I know.

So that’s the story of Gordan Giricek, as best as I can tell it. A tall fella from a faraway land who played basketball for a long time. He ain’t no farmer, that’s for sure, but he seems like a decent enough fella. Hope he’s happy, wherever he is. And I hope he’s got a good porch to sit on, ‘cause a good porch is important, let me tell ya.

Last I heard, he’s about 47 years old now. Still a young whippersnapper in my book, but I guess in the basketball world, that’s old. Time flies, don’t it? One minute you’re runnin’ up and down the court, the next you’re sittin’ in a rockin’ chair, wonderin’ where all the time went.

Anyways, that’s all I know about Gordan Giricek. If you wanna know more, you can go ask them city folk with their fancy computers. They know everything, or at least they think they do.
